the police said that he had arrived at around 7:15 a.m. It is believed that he had a heart problem. The man had waiting in line for five hours and his number was 565 in the queue.

On March 8, International Women’s Day  is annually celebrated to commemorate women’s achievements throughout the years. This day’s events include seminars, conferences, and lectures by female political figures and business leaders. In some countries, including Ukraine and Russia, this day is a national holiday.

Women’s rights are in progress, yet not all women have their rights in all the regions of the world. The majority of the poor is women. Women receive 30 to 40 percent less pay than men occupying the same job. Also, women are still victims of violence, like rape and domestic assaults. I believe that in most countries, women have their rights legally, yet the idea that women are inferior to men is still existing in the back of the heads of not only men, but also women.

About Black History month:
In America, Black History Month is celebrated in the month of February.  Throughout the month, it serves as a remembrance of people and events in the history of the African Diaspora.
During the month places such as schools, museums, television programs, and radio programs make special programs to honor African-Americans in history.

Controversy:
Some critics, including actor Morgan Freeman, argue that Black History month is an insult to African-Americans because it is a ‘shallow ritual’ that undermines the importance of the role black people played in history of America.
After all, black history is American history, and it should not be extracted out of history as a separate event that is celebrated for only one month in the year.

featured blog post

March 1, 2010

Rola asked me to post this in a location where all the 11th graders could see it.  Therefore, I will occasionally post a ‘featured post’ that I feel is well thought out and written.

Rola’s post is below.

THE ARRIVALS

By Rola Zyada

This blog is not like my usual breaking news blogs, but i believe it addresses a much more important and eyeopening issue.I am talking about the series of documentaries by Noreaga and Achernahr called the Arrivals. This series discusses issues like those of the Freemasons, Zionism, the Illuminati and the new world order, opening the eyes of whoever watches to the true agenda’s of those who rule our world and those who hold all the power regardless of what is being said about freedom ,democracy and equality.the series provides a great amount of information about secret societies of the world and the hidden agendas, which all comes to the conclusion of total world domination, through tools like mind control, mass media, propaganda and even so called education. These documentaries have really opened my eyes to many things around me , but it’s important to know that not everything that is said in theses documentaries is to be taken for a fact, but it is merely a way to enlighten
people and make them think .And after all each individual should further investigate the truth, just start with realizing that the world is not what it seems to be , and that thinking is the first and biggest step in uncovering the truth.

please take the time to watch it on www.wakeupproject.com or follow the link http://wakeupproject.com/VList.asp?Series=1

thank you.

1492 Film Assignment

December 1, 2009

Film: 1492  La Conquista Del Paraiso

What I want is for you to write 3 paragraphs talking about how the Native Americans, the Spanish, and Columbus are represented in the film.
Think about the bias of the film maker.  Where do you think the film maker (Ridley Scott) is coming from?
Don’t forget to support your answer with examples from the movie.
For example, in the scene that the Spanish find land and are jumping out of boats into the water, what is
the message here?  Is it heroic or victimizing? Why?

Post your carefully thought out paragraphs to your blog.

Don’t hesitate to leave a comment here or email me with questions,

Ms. A

Hey all,

I am posting the link to the film we watched in class so you can watch it online.

Legacy- The Burden of Time:  http://docu.injpn.net/Documentary/History/Legacy-The-Origins-of-Civilization.html

You have to scroll down to where it says

Central America – The Burden of Time

Isolated from the rest of the world, the Mayans and Aztecs created sophisticated civilizations that in many ways paralleled ancient Mediterranean empires. God-like kings and a priestly ruling class dominated splendid cities of temples and pyramids.

This would be a good opportunity to raise your grade if your film review post was low.

Best,

Ms. Amanda

Open Internet Assignment

November 5, 2009

This assignment is due Sunday, November 8th for 11-B and  Monday, November 9th for 11-A and 11-C.

Right now, in Washington, lawmakers are discussing whether to keep an Open Internet system or change it.  This is a film that discusses what Open Internet is, and the benefits of it.  This topic has an affect on you, me, the future of the net, and beyond what we can imagine.

The assignment: Watch this 5 minute video that talks about Open Internet.  On your blog, summarize what is being discussed.  This includes answering the questions like :  What is Open Internet?  At this moment in time, who controls the information on the net? What are the risks of limiting user control of the net? etc.

After you have summarized the topic on your blog, talk about what you think.    Should the government change internet policy?  Should it stay the same?  Do you think this legislation affects you?  etc.   I want to read well thought out answers.

Happy Viewing. I hope you enjoy it, Ms. Amanda
